“Augmented Reality or AR” which is not to confuse with “Virtual Reality or VR”.

“Augmented reality isn't a new technology, but it is relatively new to personal devices. While virtual reality immerses you into a space, essentially replacing everything you see in a physical world, AR takes the world around you and adds virtual objects to it.” M.T. and D.G.

For a quick comparison, we can say that:

-AR augments the physical world with a digital experience.

-VR creates a new world which is totally disconnected of the physical world outside.

AR can be divided into 3 main categories by the ways it can be accessed and experienced:

  • Mobile App AR
  • AR for social media (accessed through most social media platforms)
  • Web AR (enables our mobile devices to provide an AR experience directly from the web browser)

Situated Cognition implies that customer experiences seem most realistic when they are:

  • Embodied (information about products and services is integrated in real-time within the immediate decision context)
  • Embedded (Allowing for physical interaction with a product or service)
  • Extended (Providing Opportunities for communication with other customers)

AR provides a natural integration of interactive, real-time virtual content into the customer’s view of the physical environment and enables embedded, embodied customer experience.

Simply we are always working using 3D modules created using Sketch-up, Revit,  AutoCAD 3D  etc…

AR technology allows us to upload these models to the cloud(internet) and integrate it in any of the 3 accessibility categories mentioned above;

In addition these 3D models can be : a- Rendered

For example: Developing an interior dezign for a full space in any project, can be directly uploaded to the cloud and then placed on site for client checking; or developing an exterior element such as a fountain or entrance gate can be placed on site and to scale 1:1 (multiple scales available), hence discussed with the client with an Augmented Reality presence.
